Alright, so let's come up with potions. No need to have specific ingredients. Anyway, here's a template for people wanting to play safe:

Recipe:
Rating:
Color:
Type:
Effects:

---

And an explanation of each part:

Recipe: The name of the recipe. Adding your own name is allowed.

Rating:
*: Mostly safe and harmless. No visible effect on the body.
**: May stimulate senses or incur transformations that do not alter body shape or size. Effects last for an hour at most. Catalysts invoke simple creatures with little to no capturing power.
***: Senses overtake the body and transformations can alter the body as long as it resembles a "human". Effects can last for days. Catalysts may invoke a golem.
****: Senses may result in coma, addiction or mind control. Transformations can last for months or years and can even change species. Catalysts can invoke demons.
X: Forbidden potions. These potions are taboo regardless of their actual rank.

Color: This also includes any swirl of other colors or patterns that may naturally occur. Sometimes, the texture or state of the potion best describes it.

Type:
Consumable: These potions are effective if ingested. Most healing potions are like this.
Ointment: This potions are more effective if applied to a surface. Drinking is not recommended.
Submersion: These potions are made in massive amounts or must be poured . Best used on the whole body or for dipping weapons.
Bomb: These potions react violently if exposed to certain elements, the most common being air, flesh or fire.
Catalyst: These potions are used in the summoning or creation of magical creatures. Usually lacks a key ingredient to keep it inactive.

Effects:
Whatever the potion does. It is recommended to also include how to properly apply the potions and any side effects.

---

Example potions:

Recipe: Potion of Underwater Breathing
Rating: *
Color: A clear blue with lots of bubbles.
Type: Consumable
Effects: This potion creates an air-pocket in the drinker. This allows the drink approximately twenty minutes of breathing underwater.

Recipe: Liquified Scales of the Merman
Rating: **
Color: A greenish goop with what looks like sparkling scales.
Type: Ointment
Effects: Spreading this lotion creates a layer of scales that absorbs a little damage. If applied to the hands and feet, it will also create webbing to propel the user faster underwater.

Recipe: Mermaid's Fantasy
Rating: ***
Color: A clear ocean blue. You could almost see fish swimming inside.
Type: Submersion
Effects: Transforms the user into a mermaid that can breath in air or water.

Recipe: Fander's Botched Fish Food
Rating: ****
Color: A clear ocean blue. Upon human contact, it fizzes with orange bubbles.
Type: Submersion
Effects: This transforms the user into an armless mermaid. The mind is suppressed so that the person acts like a fish. If removed from water, the drop in moisture heightens the senses, causing it to flop uncontrollably. If the fish is successfully dried, the skin will weaken and the mind-numbing effect will go away. The potion only works once per application.

Recipe: Fish Food of Atlantis
Rating: X
Color: A clear ocean blue crystal.
Type: Catalyst
Effects: This transforms the user into an armless mermaid. The mind is suppressed so that the person acts like a fish. If removed from water, it will crawl like a catfish and will head back to the catalyst. This potion was banned as efforts to retrieve the catalyst proved unsuccessful.

Lemme try my hand at this; it seems fun.

Recipe:Poet's Poison
Ratting: *
Color:Warm Bronze, comparable to honey. Sweet to taste, bitter aftertaste.
Type:Consumable
Effect:Upon consumption the drinker become incapable of speaking without rhyming. If the subject is unable to come up with a rhyme to relate what they desire to say they find themselves unable to speak at all. Favored by poor poets and would be lady's men.
I'll Azarath your ass.

Nice job with that potion that's somewhat orange, though I'm afraid there's a problem with the... (silence)

---

Recipe: Rupert's Skin Stretcher
Rating: **
Color: Beige
Type: Ointment
Effect: This potion makes the skin malleable. It's used mainly for people to get ride of wrinkles or to change their face. However, a quick hand could wrap a person in their own skin!

Recipe: Bacchus's Gold
Rating: ****
Color: A thick gold. If mixed with other liquids, it shows up as minute gold specks in the mixture.
Type: Consumable
Effect: Whoever drinks a liquid laced with this potion will find their bodies turned into an urn. This urn usually produces the liquid that the potion was hidden in. By fully draining the liquid and the potion from the urn, the person will revert back eventually.

Recipe: Bundel Bait
Rating: ***
Color: Pastel daisy yellow
Type: Bomb
Effect: This ball releases a repugnant smell that attracts wild prey. Normally sticky, but depending on its size, any prey that draws near is drawn into the ball. After a day, the bait will dry out, and any captured prey is left bundled in a strong rubbery film.

Recipe: Cooldown!
Rating: **
Color: Shining Blue. Cold to the touch.
Type: Consumable.
Effect: This drink makes you sweat blue...which will also solidify over you. Essentially, the hotter it is, the more sweat will be produced, though after being covered in an unmovable layer, you won't feel the heat.

That’s the point. You have to rhyme or you won’t speak for quite a time. :P
Recipe: Honeyed Words
Rating: **
Color: Caramel or gold, typically very thin and watery.
Type: Ointment
Effect:This ointment, when applied to the subject’s inner ear, causes them to perceive all conversation in the best possible sense. This can manifest as ditziness or simple obtuseness depending on the subject.

Recipe: Stone Skin
Rating:***
Color:Grey or white, typically with flecks of gypsum.
Type:Ointment
Effect: When applied this ointment causes the subject’s skin to become as hard as stone. Application must be performed carefully or joints will become locked in place, favored by fighters as a means of protection. Stone plates typically flake off after several hours. Overuse is known to cause arthritis; extreme overuse may cause joint-paralysis.
The use of gloves is advised if the applicant does not wish their palms to turn to stone.

Recipe: Glitter Dust
Rating: **
Color: Various, always bright and sparkly. Sometimes more than one color.
Type: Ointment
Effect: When applied this ointment causes the skin to sparkle and glitter in whatever color(s) the ointment contained. Overuse can be quiet gaudy. Allegedly popular among vampires.

I had fun with these.
I'll Azarath your ass.

Recipe: Quicksap Extract
Rating: ****
Color: Brown and green dust when exposed to fresh air. Otherwise, it is invisible.
Type: Bomb
Effect: When the dust is inhaled or ingested, it starts transforming the cells in the host body into plant cells. This will effectively change the person's body to wood and immobilize the person. Any existing hair usually turns to wood while new "hair" sprouts as leaves. Some collectors like to keep the victims trimmed and use them as wooden statues instead.

Recipe: Genie a la Bottle
Rating: X
Color: Thick goopy white.
Type: Bomb
Effect: When opened, this potion reinforces the bottle and snatches anyone close to it, placing them in the bottle. Other potions can be poured into the bottle, instantly applying its effects to its occupant. While the captive cannot grant wishes, the wielder of the bottle can summon the captive into or out of the bottle.

Recipe: Candied Glaze
Rating: ***
Color: A clear sweet goo.
Type: Submerge
Effect: This potion is applied onto edible objects such as apples or candy canes. If said object is consumed, the person turns into something similar to the consumed object.

Recipe: Smooth Skin
Rating: **
Color: A fizzing light brown drink
Type: Consumable
Effect: This potion pops out imperfections on the skin. However, this includes goosebumps, wrinkles and hair.

Recipe: Demon Bait
Rating: *
Color: Clear, strong scent of brimstone.
Type: Ointment
Effect:Favored by unscrupulous souls; or those who wish to consort with infernal powers. Rubbed into the skin, this ointment causes the subject to become extremely attractive to the denizens of the underworld and their kin.

Recipe: Fish Breath
Rating:**
Color:Gold or copper, oily and thick.
Type: Consumable
Effect: Drinking this potion causes the imbiber to lose the ability to breath oxygen. In place they gain the ability to inhale water; either salt or fresh water, and draw a survivable amount of oxygen from it. A typical potion lasts 24 hours; upon wearing off the user forcibly expels any water left in the lungs, a foul fish-scented breath has been reported to last weeks after imbibing.

Recipe: Love Honey
Rating: **
Color: Honey Yellow
Type: Ointment
Effect:This sweet smelling ointment, when rubbed into the skin, causes it to become warm and sensitive. Users frequently report a feeling of tepidness in extremities, and a magnified sensation from any touch. Frequent users may experience tingling in extremities between uses.
I'll Azarath your ass.
