The free girl, who was thick, asked the mage about...well, everything. The mage in question run a shop that sells rubber toys of his own creation. Yes, he does sell rubber mermaids and their suits, but he assures her that reselling the girls is just bad practice. Of course, should they wish to become rubber mermaids again after they are free, that is up to them.
They must have reached the shore because a catgirl in a catsuit hauled a basket of (thankfully normal) clothes. The mage then removes the rubber from the other free mermaids and waits outside the boat as they change.
